Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins died and director Joel Souza injures. After actor Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun on the set of 19th Century western, Rust. Police said, Baldwin. Who is also the film’s co-producer, discharged the weapon during filming in New Mexico on Thursday.

Deaths on film sets by a gun are extremely rare, but they do happen. The guns, prop or not, used in films normally have blanks that generate. A muzzle flash and an explosive sound to make the gunshot look and sound real. But does not launch any projectile that can injure or kill anybody.

There have been some exceptions with tragic consequences. Brandon Lee, the actor, martial artist, and the son of late martial arts legend Bruce Lee. Died in a freak incident similar to the Rust one in 1993.

When the bullet struck him, he fell down and did not get up after the director Alex Proyas said cut. Crew members thought he was just joking around. One of the stuntmen checked on him and found that he was breathing heavily.

Brandon rush to the hospital but died after unsuccessful six-hour surgery. He’s just 28. His performance praise posthumously and the film became a big critical and commercial success.

His sister and Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee, shared a tweet condoling Hutchins’ death through a commemorative Twitter account of Brandon. The tweet read, “Our hearts go out to the family of Halyna Hutchins and to Joel Souza and all involved in the incident on “Rust”. No one should ever kill by a gun on a film set. Period.”

While the shot did not penetrate his skull, due to the ridiculously close-range nature of the shot, the blank pushed a bone fragment into his brain and the blunt force trauma caused a hemorrhage. He was immediately hospitalized but despite surgery, he was announced as brain dead. He was taken off life support after a week.

‘Halloween Kills’ proves to be a box-office killer.

“Halloween Kills” may be available to watch at home. But the latest installment in the Michael Myers saga is making a killing. At the North American box office in its first weekend in theaters. The David Gordon Green-directed horror scared up $50.4 million from 3,705 locations, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Universal’s “Halloween Kills” far surpassed expectations. The film pegged for a more conservative debut in the $30 million range. It also easily bested its main competition. Included the James Bond pic “No Time to Die,” in its second weekend. And Ridley Scott’s medieval epic “The Last Duel.” Both are playing exclusively in theaters.

The film picks up where Green’s 2018 “Halloween” left off. On the same bloody night, with Jamie Lee Curtis back as Laurie Strode. Some were surprised when the studio made the decision to release “Halloween Kills” simultaneously in theaters and on NBC Universal’s Peacock for premium subscribers, but the day-and-date strategy does not seem to have hurt its box office haul.

The 2018 “Halloween” was a massive hit that opened to $76.2 million and went on to gross north of $256 million against a $10 million budget. And there are plans for a third that will close out the modern Michael Myers trilogy.

Next week Warner Bros.’ big-budget adaptation of “Dune” opens in theaters and on HBO Max, as does Disney’s “Ron’s Gone Wrong” and Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch.”
