Sacha Baron Cohen won’t return as Borat

Actor Sacha Baron Cohen has said that he will not reprise the role of the fan-favorite Borat in future films. Cohen first played Borat Sagdiyev, a slim, gray-clad journalist who worked for Kazakhstan’s state television network, in the 2006 film Borat:

Cultural Lessons from America for the benefit of the glorious nation of Kazakhstan.

He recently released his sequel Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, which launched on Amazon Prime Video ahead of the US presidential election in November.

In an interview with Variety, Sacha Baron Cohen said that he created Borat 2 because he “felt that democracy was in danger” due to the presidency of Donald Trump.

“I felt that democracy was in danger, I felt that people’s lives were in danger and I felt compelled to finish the film. The movie was originally about the danger of Trump and Trumpism.

Joe Biden is poised to become the next US president. After winning 306 votes in the electoral college over Donald Trump, who managed just 232, Sacha Baron Cohen said it was time for him to tell Borat to see new.

“I took out Borat for Trump. This movie had a purpose, and I really don’t see the purpose of doing it again. So yes, he is locked in the closet, “said the actor.

News that will make mystery fans happy.

Recently many news are coming off; the films that will be based on best-selling novels, Filmiere.com reports.

One of the most exciting new names of the movie industry of recent years Florence Pugh (pictured) is producing and starring in the murder mystery “The Maid” for Universal Pictures, based on Nita Prose’s debut novel of the same name.

The book itself will be published in 2022. The studio said the story contains elements of Gail Honeyman’s “Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine” with an Agatha Christie-esque murder mystery.

According to the official plot, by the studio, it’s about Molly the maid, who leaves every room perfect and pristine, while getting to know each guest’s dirty secrets, and explores Molly’s descent into the murderous underbelly of her gilded workplace.

The other news is coming from Jennifer Lopez. Playing FBI agent is no stranger to Lopez and in movies, she had to deal with serial killers before in “The Cell” and now she’s back to the mystery area.

She will play the role of FBI agent Nina Guerrera in the Netflix adaptation of Isabella Malondo’s novel ‘The Cipher’.

Currently, there’s no writer or director of the project but Lopez herself is the executive producer of this and she’ll probably manage to bring big names to the project. So the murder-mystery or serial killer story lovers still have big and exciting projects to look forward to.

It seems the success of “Knives Out” had made the Agatha style murder mysteries popular again and of course, other kinds as well.

Film Festivals: Sun-dance line-up is here, Berlin to go online.

(Photograph credit: Sundance Film Festival)

A lot of things going on in the film festival world and as Filmiere.com we try to update you with the major news. First of all, you can look up for Sundance line-up. It includes some exciting titles like Rebecca Hall’s directorial debut “Passing”, shot in black and white.

Set primarily in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City in the 1920s, the story centers on the reunion of two childhood friends—Clare Kendry and Irene Redfield—and their increasing fascination with each other’s lives.

The title refers to the practice of “racial passing”, and is a key element of the novel the film was based on. While there are not many big names at the festival for obvious reasons, it’s not a bad thing. It brings the festival to its roots; new independent voices in filmmaking get their voices heard.

Of course, genre fans are not forgotten. Nicolas Cage-starring new Sion Sono film “Prisoners of the Ghostland” will also be at the festival. It’ll be the first English-language film of Japanese auteur. In Europe, the Berlin Film Festival decided to go virtual.

The festival was originally scheduled to run as a physical event from Feb. 11-21, but rising COVID-19 infections in Germany have forced a rethink. While Venice Film Festival managed to have a physical edition, it’s still too much of a risk for many others it seems.

No need to be afraid of piracy risks also, since many festivals like Toronto and New York didn’t have a problem with that. Again, we hope the COVID will go away as soon as possible, so the cinema world will go back to normal.

Tom Cruise rant goes viral!

(Photograph credit: Guglielmo Mangiapane/Reuters/The Guardian)

Tom Cruise is one of the biggest stars of cinema ever lived and also one of the most professional and dedicated, Filmiere.com reports.

Now we usually report news from reliable and important sources, trying to avoid tabloids but this time British tabloid The Sun got the news first.

Tom Cruise has been recorded screaming obscenities at crew members on his current film Mission: Impossible 7 after apparent breaches of on-set social distancing guidelines. The audio leaked into the web and gone viral.

Even though some people criticized Cruise for handling the matter with too much rage and anger instead of a more understanding way, many more people applauded them for his strictness on the issue, how he promotes the importance of following the rules, so the millions won’t be wasted by studios and insurance companies and countless workers won’t be affected because of one man’s mistake.

“That’s it! No apologies. You can tell it to the people that are losing their f*cking homes because our industry is shut down. It’s not going to put food on their table or pay for their college education.” The cruise was recorded shouting. Many parts of the audiotape are already turning into internet memes.

While it’s not the first time an outburst makes into the web; like how David O. Russell clashed with Lily Tomlin or more famously, Christian Bale got into a heated argument with DP on “Terminator Salvation”, but probably it’s the first time most people support the action.

The film’s production company has not commented on the matter but the filming is going on and Cruise, as you can remember from “Tenet” premiere attendance, is a big supporter of the theatrical experience of movies.

Warner Bros to change some release dates.

(Photograph credit: Warner Bros.)

“Tom and Jerry” new version – which recently got a trailer – can get itself an Oscar nomination for VFX, in the same way like “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” did. That’s because Warner Bros. changed the release date of the upcoming feature film, reports Filmiere.com.

The film was moved up a week and will debut on Feb. 26, 2021, instead of the previously scheduled March 5 and it might be because of the Oscars or something else because some other titles have also changed their release date.

“Mortal Kombat,” a live-action adaptation of the popular video game, was originally set for Jan. 15, 2021, and will now open on April 16, 2021. “Reminiscence,” which was initially slated for mid-April, was removed from the studio’s calendar.

All those films, as previously announced, will premiere on HBO Max which the decision itself got a lot of discussions.

When Warner Bros. announced the plans earlier in December, a promotional trailer offered a disclaimer that individual release dates are “subject to change,” so more calendar shifts may be on the horizon.

We’ll keep you updated about any news regarding the release date changes. Hopefully whatever their decision is won’t harm theatres and all films will be worth the wait.

“The Dark Knight”, “Shrek”, “Grease”, “A Clockwork Orange” are among Film Registry inductees.

(Photograph credit: Warner Bros.)

The National Film Registry (NFR) is the United States National Film Preservation Board’s (NFPB) selection of films that are believed to be deserving of preservation.

The NFPB, established by the National Film Preservation Act of 1988, was reauthorized by acts of Congress in 1992, 1996, 2005, and again in October 2008. This year film such as “The Dark Knight,” “Shrek,” “Grease,” “The Blues Brothers,”

“Lillies of the Field,” “The Hurt Locker,” “A Clockwork Orange,” “The Joy Luck Club” and “The Man With the Golden Arm” are all added there. It’s the second time a superhero movie after “Superman” (1979) gets noticed.

Christopher Nolan, director of “The Dark Knight” said he’s honored and said it’s a success of not only his but also everybody who worked on Batman mythology to this day. “The Joy Luck Club” was an important film for Asian-American culture, and the producer Janet Young shared her happiness for it.

Kathyrn Bigelow was also humbled and thrilled for the inclusion. John Landis previously got a place for Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and “Animal House” but his third inclusion came with “The Blues Brothers” and he said it’s all because of Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi,

their chemistry and love for blues music and African-American artists. Speaking of African-Americans, Sidney Poitier also said: “‘Lilies of the Field’ stirs up such great remembrances in our family, from the littlest Poitiers watching a young and agile ‘Papa’ to the oldest – Papa Sidney himself!”

It’s no surprise that “Shrek” is here given how huge it was. Then, of course, another Kubrik film “A Clockwork Orange”. Meanwhile, the “Grease” director also reacted to the news. “The cast and crew of ‘Grease’ have remained close for the past 40 years,” said “Grease” director Randal Kleiser.

“We are all honored to be included in this year’s national registry selection. Personally, I’ve spent the last year composing all my script notations, storyboards, and photographs.” As Filmiere.com, it’s always a joy to see films are protected and appreciated on a much higher level.

RIP John le Carré

(Photograph credit: Lionsgate)

As Filmiere.com, we usually share information regarding movie people but while he was more of a huge name in literature instead, especially one of the masters of Cold War-era espionage novels, British writer John le Carre was the reason why many great films or television series got made.

It goes back to even 60s when Sidney Lumet made masterful “The Deadly Affair” (1967) which explored human ethics but his novels also were the basis of successful other films like “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”, “Tailor of Panama”,

“The Constant Gardener”, “The Russia House”, “A Most Wanted Man” marked the last feature film role for the great Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Not only award-winning films but just recently award-winning tv series made by acclaimed film directors starring actors mostly known for their film work like in “The Night Manager” and “Little Drummer Girl” were also based on his work.

During the 1950s and 1960s, John worked for both the Security Service (MI5) and the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6). His third novel, “The Spy Who Came in from the Cold” (1963), became an international best-seller and remains one of his best-known works. May he rest in peace.

Soderbergh to make a sequel to “Sex, Lies and Videotape”

(photograph credit:Miramax)

Steven Soderbergh is a man who loves to work. Even though he once announced his retirement, he came back like thunder and kept making films. Just recently his new film “Let Them All Talk” got released on HBO Max to positive reviews, Filmiere.com can confirm.

He also didn’t stay quiet in quarantine and worked on some of his previous films; re-edited them but most importantly, he wrote a sequel to his breakthrough hit “Sex, Lies, and Videotape”, a film that made his name to go down the youngest winner at Cannes as well as brought him his first Oscar nomination for screenplay.

We were not sure if he’s serious about making this film or just an idea but he seems to be serious. Apparently, with Andie MacDowell and Laura San Giacomo agreeing to reprise their roles as sisters! That means the project will be realized sooner or later.

Considering he’s working with HBO max and Netflix recently, it won’t be a surprise if they’d end up financing those.

The movie will set 30 years after the events of the original film. It’s unknown if James Spader or any other original cast member will make a comeback but it’ll be great to explore the characters’ lives in our modern world.

Ana De Armas’ success continues.

(Photograph credit: MGM)

Cuban-Spanish actress Ana De Armas had been on everybody’s mind recently. She got her first Golden Globe nomination for her performance in “Knives Out” recently.

She’s already developing a huge fan base, her relationship with Ben Affleck is on the gossip columns, her physical appearance is on the attention of magazines and her upcoming films including Adrien Lyne’s comeback thriller and new James Bond film intrigues many.

Not to forget, she’s also set to play Marilyn Monroe in “Blonde”, Filmiere.com reports. She’s not slowing down. According to recent reports, she was the most clicked, most “popular” name of the year on IMDb. Obviously, the larger crowds are more and more getting interested in her and her work.

Filmiere.com already reported you about the upcoming Netflix action-thriller “The Gray Man”, starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. She’s going to play the female lead, which will be her reunion with Evans after “Knives Out”.

Joe and Anthony Russo will direct the spy movie, which is expected to be the most expensive Netflix film in history. Will she still be the most popular name on IMDb or not is something that time will show but it’s certain that her name is getting bigger.
