“The Batman” trailer is out

(Photograph credit: Warner Bros. Pictures)

Comic book fans had a good week, especially those of DC Comics since they got the new “Wonder Woman” trailer and upcoming Snyder Cut of “Justice League”. Probably the most discussed one was “The Batman”, Matt Reeves’ new adaptation and the general reception is positive.

Of course, the movie this big will always get criticism and doubts, but that’s always the case. So far, we got the in-larger look at Robert Pattinson as Batman, including his eye make-up in which some of the “Batman” films were magically disappearing when he was taking his mask off.

Then we got to see Jeffrey Wright and some others, even though Paul Dano and Zoe Kravitz were mostly in mask and fans kept discussing if it was Colin Farrell in make-up, as one character was almost unrecognizable in make-up but looks like Penguin indeed.

The film follows a more Nolan-ish semi-serious atmosphere of Gotham with noir traditions. So those who prefer Tim Burton’s style will be disappointed seemingly. Matt Reeves made it clear that it’s a detective story loyal to the origins of the comic book with the noir tradition of “Chinatown”, the street look of “Taxi Driver” and the atmosphere of cop films like “The French Connection”. Everything sounds good, so far. Filmiere.com will keep you updated.

Finally “Tenet” reviews are out.

(Photograph credit: Warner Bros.)

As Filmiere.com recently, It’s possible “Tenet” doing a good box office business because the box office results of the recent weeks are pretty solid. The reviews won’t hurt either. Finally, the critical reception is out; there are some mixed thoughts on the quality of the movie.

The Guardian criticized it a lot and Indiewire also gave a very mixed review. While some call it as one of the lesser Nolan efforts that work like a typical espionage film with a sci-fi spin but there are strong reviews as well, like Independent UK called it one of Nolan’s most satisfying films actually.

In general, the reception is good but not great. It shouldn’t bother Nolan’s fans or his box office. While it’s unknown if it’ll turn into a classic or not in the future, Nolan fans shouldn’t be angry as it’s not the first time his movies gets a more mixed reception.

“The Prestige’ and “Interstellar” are not necessarily universally acclaimed films but they’re beloved by the public. So there won’t be much negativity that would affect “Tenet”. The next few weeks will be interesting for many reasons. Current Rotten Tomato consensus reads: “A visually dazzling puzzle for film lovers to unlock, Tenet serves up all the cerebral spectacle audiences expect from a Christopher Nolan production.”

Ridley Scott’s new “Gucci” films get a strong ensemble cast

(photograph credit: Netflix)

He may be 82 but British director Ridley Scott is nowhere close to stopping. There was already a project of his that turns around the Gucci brand, how the grandson of the creator of the famous company got murdered by his wife, which was supposed to be played by Lady GaGa.

It could have been just a project that stuck in development hell but Scott kept going with it and now he has a lot of big names attached to cast including Adam Driver, Jared Leto and most notably Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, two of the biggest movie stars ever reuniting for the fourth time.

Most recently they both appeared in last year’s Martin Scorsese masterpiece “The Irishman”, which brought Pacino an Oscar nom for his acting and De Niro a nom for his producing. The cast is certainly very appalling.

Filmiere.com will keep you updated with the news but we have to say that, Scott has had cases where he failed with big ensemble casts like in “The Counselor” but recently he got acclaim for his biopic “All the Money in the World”. So he can do it again.

Olivia Wilde to direct a Marvel Movie

(Photograph credit: Universal Pictures)

It’s been so long that “Spider-Woman” was in development but seemingly now it’s one closer to happen. Filmiere.com can’t totally confirm that if it’s “Spider-Woman” or not as it’s a rumor at this point but it’s confirmed that Olivia Wilde is going to direct a Marvel movie.

Wilde rose to fame with her role in “House” and has starred in a number of successful films even though her best performances lie in less-seen arthouses like “A Vigilante” and “Meadowland”. Her directorial debut “Booksmart” was very flashy and got widespread acclaim.

While she’s preparing to work on a new film with Dakota Johnson and Chris Pine, she now has another directorial project. Not MCU though. According to initial reports, it’s supposed to set in Sony’s “Spider-Verse” universe. Now having Olivia Wilde in the director’s chair the project is also bringing aboard Booksmart writer Katie Silberman, who will be penning the script.

Wilde is a very talented individual, so it’ll be interesting to see what she has to bring to such a project.

Sofia Coppola’s new film trailer is out.

(Photograph credit:Indiewire/Marion Curtis/Starpix/Shutterstock)

“Bill [Murray] and Rashida [Jones] is the father-daughter duo we never knew we needed,” says Apple on their film with A24 “On the Rocks”, directed by great Sofia Coppola. After few dry months, we finally started to get new trailers back to back, and “On the Rock” is probably the most notable trailer of the last few days since it’s coming from an acclaimed director.

It’s confirmed to be an October release, which is good but also strange since it skipped all the major festivals including Venice. Sofia is usually regular at such places. Alberto Barbera, head director of the Venice Film Festival said they wanted the film but couldn’t get it.

Filmiere.com can’t confirm the reason behind this decision by A24 but hoping it has nothing to do with the quality of the movie and Coppola yet delivered another strong work. Her last film “The Beguiled” is robbed of adapted screenplay Oscar nomination in a weak category but brought her a Cannes director award.

“On the Rocks’ could have been something we call an awards-season release but this is a different year and who knows even if there will be Oscars or not? Whatever it is, many cinephiles are probably that the new Bill Murray-Sofia Coppola collaboration is very near.

Keanu Reeves is happy about safety protocols in Germany

(Photograph credit: Warner Bros.)

Keanu Reeves is a beloved on the internet and among the public. He has recently spoken about his admiration for the safety protocols in Berlin, Germany while filming “The Matrix 4”. As Filmiere.com reported recently, this is a challenging year and the filming of the movies will not be the same again until the world will get back to normal somehow someday.

A certain part of budgets will be going to safety issues and Germany is very attentive in this case. “There are some really thoughtful, effective protocols in place, and the rhythm of filmmaking has not been really impacted or interrupted, in the sense of filming,” Reeves told the Associated Press.

“That’s because of the hard work and organization, and again the thoughtfulness that has gone into the protocols.” Production began in in February and moved to Berlin in March, but cameras did not as coronavirus swept the world.

Reeves and his “Matrix” series, directed by Wachowskis are very beloved and the fans are looking forward to seeing the end result. Many countries are taking safety measures in their movie industries. We’ll see which ones are doing it right and which ones are doing it wrong.

Those films that get filming this year will reveal a lot about the current standards of filmmaking. Meanwhile coming back to “The Matrix”, it seems Laurence Fishburne won’t be back. “I have not been invited. Maybe that will make me write another play.

I wish them well. I hope it’s great,” Fishburne told Magazine (as covered by The Wrap). “It is probably the role that I’ll be best remembered for, which is great; it’s not the only thing I’ll be remembered for, which is better,” he added of Morpheus.

Will Smith and Kevin Hart to star in “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” remake

(Photograph credit: The Film Stage)

John Hughes’ “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” starring the great Steve Martin and John Candy is one of the most beloved comedies of the 1980s and arguably the most famous Thanksgiving-themed comedy in American cinema, however, it’s a film that is well known and celebrated everywhere.

Now there’s remake news. It’s a bit interesting that they’re going to remake this because many other films just decided to make a road movie with a similar formula and did fine box office just like Todd Phillips’ “Due Date”, filmiere.com reports.

They may rely on the name recognition but it can actually be off-putting for some because it’s a well-known film and there’s a growing number of complaints around remakes on the internet in recent years. Will Smith and Kevin Hart are huge stars enough to draw attention to themselves.

Anyways, there’s no need to complain. As always, hoping for more good films to come – remake or not and even if not, fans of the original should know that the original will forever exist. Hopefully, they’ll make a good update on the subject, and Smith and Hart will get a fine material to deal with.

Box office starting to come alive in Europe and Asia

(Photograph credit: STX Entertainment)

It’s possible “Tenet” doing a good box business because the box results of the recent weeks are pretty solid. While local titles have dominated the box since the country’s cinemas reopened in late June, the weekend saw the first chart-topper for a US live-action film in this period.

“Greenland” (pictured), starring Gerard Butler, Filmiere.com can confirm. The news is good in many other places. In Korea for example, the local film “Deliver Us From Evil” is doing pretty great. South Korean box rose 68% at the weekend, thanks to the arrival of the film, directed by Hong Won-Chan.

Russell Crowe movie “Unhinged” was also always expected to be the first film to get a release post-quarantine in many countries and it didn’t disappoint; since it topped six markets including a large one that is Russia.

Cinemas are opening (and closing) around the world, but even though it seems like a success for several films and their cinemas, it’s still unpredictable to see what’s going to happen. This year will be interesting to follow the cinema news around the world.

“Tenet” reviews finally come out on Friday

(photograph credit: Warner Bros. Pictures)

Yes, it seems, it’s finally happening. “Tenet” kept pushing back during this summer and it took a lot of place on our news since it’s a huge film kept delaying itself only by two weeks and Christopher Nolan is probably the director with the biggest fan base around the world, up there with Quentin Tarantino on making an “event” film.

So this is huge news for movie industry because since we know that embargo will be lifted on Friday, that means yes, it’ll be finally out in many areas of the world, according to Filmiere.com. Why the “Tenet” release is interesting because we’ll see how much critics focus on the film and how much their worries on public events will affect that.

Also since it makes it sure that “Tenet” is finally getting released, first starting with the previews on Australia (where people are also urged to pre-buy the tickets to avoid lines) and then with some other parts of the world. That means its box results and its impact on COVID-19 spread will be an example for other films to follow.

Other than that, yes, we’ll finally get to know what critics think of Christopher Nolan’s latest feature. Most of his films, especially the latest “Dunkirk” were raved by critics while films like “The Prestige” and “Interstellar” got a more mixed reception in comparison. We’ll see how this turns out.
