(Photograph credit: Amazon Studios)

The trailer brings four legends together: Muhammed Ali (Eli Goree), Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr.), and Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge). Regina King’s “One Night in Miami” got strong reviews, reports Filmiere.com.

We reported to you about the reception the movie got back in Venice and the festival season era and now we have the trailer from Amazon Prime. King’s directorial debut seems interesting not just for the American audience but to the world since these people had a massive impact on the world as well.

The trailer got a very good response. Here’s Amazon’s official synopsis: “On one incredible night in 1964, four icons of sports, music, and activism gathered to celebrate one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.

When underdog Cassius Clay, soon to be called Muhammad Ali, (Eli Goree), defeats heavyweight champion Sonny Liston at the Miami Convention Hall, Clay memorialized the event with three of his friends: Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr.) and Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge).

‘One Night In Miami’ is a fictional account inspired by the historic night these four formidable figures spent together. It looks at the struggles these men faced and the vital role they each played in the civil rights movement and cultural upheaval of the 1960s.

More than 40 years later, their conversations on racial injustice, religion, and personal responsibility still resonate.”

Tarantino to write two books

(Photograph credit: Sony)

Quentin Tarantino, as his idol Peter Bogdanovich used to call him, is probably the “single most influential director of his generation.” He’s been a huge name in cinema since ever his breakthroughs with “Reservoir Dogs” and “Pulp Fiction”.

Tarantino is also one of the few directors whose name is recognizable enough to attract general audiences into theatres. As a man who’s established a  huge fan base, one can safely that there’ll be a lot of people who’ll read his books.

He has signed a two-book deal with Harper, the HarperCollins imprint. First up is Tarantino’s first work of fiction, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, a novel to be published next summer that breathes new life into the characters and the premise of a film that got 10 Oscar nominations including a Best Supporting Actor Oscar Win for Brad Pitt.

The fans of the movie can expect a deep exploration of the characters whom Tarantino obviously loves deeply. The second book is non-fiction, “Cinema Speculation” which will be essays and articles about the 1970s “New Hollywood”.

If you check out his theatre New Beverly Cinema site, you can already catch up with some of his film criticisms, reports Filmiere.com.

That includes essays on some of his favorite films like “The Yakuza” or opinions on some of his idols like Don Siegel and Bogdanovich, whose film “Targets” have had an influence on “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”. Both books are probably some of the most anticipated books of cinephiles right now.

Judd Apatow to make a movie about quarantine

(Photograph credit: Universal Pictures)

Judd Apatow is one of the most successful filmmakers in comedy. Filmiere.com reports that Apatow has made a lot of successful stuff on television and film, as a writer, director, and producer. Some of his stuff got rave reviews, while some others got more mixed-to-negative reception.

His most recent film “King of Staten Island” got good reviews once again and despite some common criticisms like the length of his films – he keeps remaining a powerful figure.

His new film will be for Netflix. The timely film will be about actors and actresses stuck in a hotel attempting to complete a film during a pandemic.

Apatow will co-write the movie which has no actors and actresses attached yet. With such an intriguing premise, it sure has a lot of potentials to be a hit. Filmiere.com will keep you updated on the project. It’s worth noting that Apatow has previously collaborated with Netflix on the acclaimed series “Love”.

Lynne Ramsay to tackle “The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon”

(Photograph credit: “The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon” cover)

Scottish auteur Lynne Ramsay has made four feature films in total and she’s got rave reviews for all of them, including a Cannes win for her most recent “You Were Never Really Here”. Her “We Need to Talk About Kevin” gains more popularity year after year as well.

Her previous two feature films are beloved by cinephiles. Despite being an all-around acclaimed filmmaker, Ramsay hasn’t been prolific in movies that much but she’s back now. To handle a Stephen King adaptation! More interestingly, it’s produced by George Romero’s former wife.

Filmiere.com shares the official synopsis of the acclaimed novel with you: “On a six-mile hike on the Maine-New Hampshire branch of the Appalachian Trail, nine-year-old Trisha McFarland quickly tires of the constant bickering between her older brother, Pete, and she recently divorced mother.

But when she wanders off by herself and then tries to catch up by attempting a shortcut, she becomes lost in a wilderness maze full of peril and terror. As night falls, Trisha has only her ingenuity as a defense against the elements, and only her courage and faith to withstand her mounting fears.

For solace, she tunes her Walkman to broadcasts of Boston Red Sox baseball games and follows the gritty performances of her hero, relief pitcher Tom Gordon.

And when her radio’s reception begins to fade, Trisha imagines that Tom Gordon is with her – protecting her from an all-too-real enemy who has left a trail of slaughtered animals and mangled trees in the dense, dark woods…” If you haven’t read the book, you can imagine that it sounds King enough and probably Ramsay will do wonders with the material.

David Fincher’s recent remarks caused debates.

(Photograph credit: The Playlist)

Acclaimed director David Fincher is up there promoting his new movie “Mank” but his comments keep causing a lot of heat on online platforms, Filmiere.com confirms.

First Fincher made into headlines for criticizing the recent hit “Joker”, directed by Todd Phillips. Fincher said it’s was a “betrayal of the mentally ill” and the whole movie was far from being innovative; saying it’s somewhat of a poor mix of “Taxi Driver” and “King of Comedy”.

Then in another interview, he said he’s going to make TV series about cancel culture. It’s unknown if he said it with his deadpan humor or not ‘cause Fincher’s humor can be lost on paper. Another discussion was his criticism of Orson Welles.

“Well, I think Orson Welles’s tragedy lies in the mix between monumental talent and filthy immaturity,” explained Fincher.

“Sure, there is a genius in ‘Citizen Kane,’ who could argue? But when Welles says, ‘It only takes an afternoon to learn everything there is to know about cinematography,’ pfff…

Let’s say that this is the remark of someone who has been lucky to have Gregg Toland around him to prepare the next shot… Gregg Toland, damn it, an insane genius !”

Fans argued that Fincher got this part wrong because Orson shared his on-screen credit with Toland and it was Toland who told him that you can learn anything about cinematography in hours.

In his interview with “Premiere” magazine of France, Fincher added that his film doesn’t necessarily follow Pauline Kael’s thoughts since “it’s more complicated than that”. With “Mank” interviews going on, it’s interesting how Fincher will keep defending his thoughts and how the industry is going to respond to it.

Sylvester Stallone joins “Suicide Squad”

(photograph credit: Walt Disney Pictures/Marvel)

You may remember the saga; James Gunn was somewhat fired from Marvel world for his tweets, then DC hired him for “Suicide Squad”, then he got hired back at Marvel. So he has two expected hits for comic movie universe giants right now.

As fans of those who remember, action movie icon Sylvester Stallone has appeared in a brief and unexpected cameo in “Guardians of the Galaxy”. It was long rumored that he’ll be back in some form. Instead, he’ll appear in “Suicide Squad”.

Gunn himself took to Instagram on Saturday to make the announcement, writing opposite a selfie of him and Stallone: “Always love working with my friend @officialslystallone & our work today on #TheSuicideSquad was no exception.

Despite Sly being an iconic movie star, most people still don’t have any idea what an amazing actor this guy is.” When a fan asked in the comments if this means Stallone is involved with the film, Gunn replied, “Yep.”

Gunn previously said that filming had ended in February, so it’s probably a cameo role for Stallone but who knows, it might be bigger considering how he talks about his acting talent. Filmiere.com will keep sharing the news on superheroes movies.

Many stars are added to the cast of “The Guilty” remake

(Photograph credit: AP images)

Filmiere.com reported you that Antoine Fuqua is working on the American remake of Danish hit “The Guilty”, which is gonna star Jake Gyllenhaal.

He previously worked with Fuqua on the 2015 sports drama “Southpaw” and now we learn through the Deadline that many other stars are now part of the cast including Ethan Hawke, Peter Saarsgard, Riley Keough, Paul Dano, and Bill Burr.

Those are not all, actually. It’s surprising to some degree because the original film was setting in one place and you could hear only the voices of several people but with a cast this extended and full of recognizable names, we can expect that maybe they’ll show what happens in the other side or they’ll take totally different direction?

In the end, it’s always fine to add a fresh element to a remake and it’s a great cast for cinephiles to celebrate but there’s already a film with a similar concept called “The Call”, directed by Brad Anderson. The dramatic thriller was picked up by Netflix for 30 million dollars.

We don’t know how soon this is going to start filming but it seems the project moves pretty quickly and Jake is interested in making movies back to back again.

It’s worth noting that some of the cast members have also worked with Fuqua previously, while Gyllenhaal acted in Paul Dano-directed film and also starred with him in 2013 hit thriller “Prisoners”.

Claire Denis is back to work

(Photograph credit: The Playlist)

The next Claire Denis’s movie is with Vincent Lindon and Juliette Binoche, both previous collaborators. French auteur is seeming can’t work in Central America for obvious reasons but she’s not staying without work.

She had to make “Stars at Noon” with Robert Pattinson and Margaret Qualley but the project got delayed because of a pandemic, Filmiere.com reports. However, she seems to have a new film on working in France which may be ready for next year’s Cannes edition.

The plot details and almost anything else is under wraps right now. Many sites waited on the project before reporting, which has now come in courtesy of a benefit auction listing.

Denis has just made her biggest production in “High Rise” and her films are usually acclaimed. It’s interesting what she will do with the new film. We’ll keep you updated.

Trailer of the week: Wild Mountain Thyme

(Photograph credit: Bleecker Street)

“Anthony always seems to be out in the fields working, worn down by his father’s constant belittling. But what really stings is his father’s threat to bequeath the family farm to his American cousin Adam.

Rosemary at first seems to hold a grudge for having been shamed by Anthony in childhood, but the sparks between them would keep a bonfire blazing through the night.”

That’s the official synopsis for the film “Wild Mountain Thyme”, from writer/director John Patrick Shanley who previously had Oscar success with “Moonstruck” and “Doubt”. While the plot sounds more like a drama on family conflicts, it seems more like a sweet romance film from the trailer.

The cast includes Emily Blunt, Jamie Dornan, Jon Hamm, and Christopher Walken among others. It is scheduled to be released on December 11, 2020, by Bleecker Street on theatres and video-on-demand.

The response to the trailer is mostly positive, with viewers saying it is a warm, feel-good movie type but Filmiere.com recommends you to check it for yourself.

The most negative response has come from Irish audiences who kept complaining about the inaccuracy of the accents. However, it probably won’t be much of a distraction for international audiences.

Jordan Peele’s new movie will be out in 2022 summer

(Photograph credit: CBC)

If you don’t follow cinema closely, you may think that it’s like his hundredth film but no, Jordan Peele is set to direct his third feature film, again a possible horror, on a script he’ll write himself.

His name gets attached to many projects, because he either produce or executive produce many films, as well as co-write films like “Candyman”. While he’s a busy man with busy projects, what makes him a standout is his directorial efforts.

His first film “Get Out” earned him an Oscar win for Screenplay and his second film “Us” was also a critical and commercial success. His directed genre fare has minted a combined $510.5 million worldwide for the studio Universal which is great.

What makes it great is that such original horror films getting commercial success help more filmmakers to come forward to do other things.

The release date is set to be July 22, 2022, but unfortunately, that’s all Filmiere.com can share with you on the project since the plot details are under the wraps and probably there hasn’t been a casting choice or something else at this point.

The lead will be a young Latino or Native American male who is a Walmart employee in the electronics section, who is described as perceptive, sincere & clutch. The filming is expected to begin in April next year.
