(Photograph credit: Lionsgate)

She-Hulk (Jennifer Susan Walters) is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist John Buscema, she first appeared in The Savage She-Hulk #1 (cover-dated February 1980).

While we got to see Bruce Benner portrayed by several actors on movies, now it’s time to see She-Hulk. She-Hulk has been a member of the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Heroes for Hire, the Defenders, Fantastic Force and S.H.I.E.L.D.

As a highly skilled lawyer who became a superhero by accident, she frequently leverages her legal and personal experience to serve as legal counsel to various superheroes and other metahumans. Now she’ll be a part of Marvel Cinematic Universe, on Disney+ with a series.

Rick and Morty writer Jessica Gao has already been tapped to lead the writers room. So Marvel fans will have a lot to enjoy with not just new Marvel movies but also shared television series with the cinematic universe.

Given the comic-book films following around the world, Filmiere.com will keep post the further details regarding those projects.

“Fast Times at Ridgemont High” table read was basically all-star remake

(photograph credit: The Playlist)

Stars finally gathered for “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” virtual table read. During those pandemic times, virtual table reads became more often and popular around the web but rarely these many stars gathered together. Is this Sean Penn’s influence? Who knows.

It actually would be interesting if more of the original members of the hit cult film would reunite (other than Penn) such as Jennifer Jason Leigh for some fans but seeing stars like Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Matthew McConaughey, Ray Liotta, and Morgan Freeman coming together was a treat for movies.

If one thing pandemic proved that many things are possible through the internet, Filmiere.com reports. While most of the news outlets were more interested in real-life ex-couple Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston’s chemistry together, you can just enjoy all these talented people re-reading all those memorable lines, originally written by Cameron Crowe and directed by Amy Heckerling back in the 80s. Some films just never get old.

Boris Karloff: The Man Behind The Monster 5-Minute Trailer is on Web

(Photograph credit: Paramount Pictures)

Boris Karloff as Frankenstein’s monster to most people but he was more than that. He was a great storyteller for children and he was a versatile actor which was evident from Peter Bogdanovich’s “Targets” which he starred in a very against-type role in somewhat of his farewell movie.

Bogdanovich is one of the many filmmakers who’ll appear in a documentary dedicated to horror icon and cinema legend. Born to a British father and Indian mother, Boris Karloff started his career by appearing in ethnic roles and then suddenly went to rise and became a horror icon.

The trailer for a documentary on his life “Boris Karloff: The Man Behind The Monster” has now arrived. The 5-minutes of documentary footage covers a wide range of the Hollywood legend’s long career, Guillermo Del Toro, John Landis, Joe Dante, Christopher Plummer,  and Ron Perlman are some of the major names that appear on the documentary.

The documentary is supposed to come out in early 2021 and hopefully, it’ll be something that many cinema fans will cherish and appreciate.

German actor Daniel Brühl to make his directorial debut, Next Door

(Photograph credit: Universal Pictures)

In 2003, his starring role in the German film Good Bye, Lenin! received wider recognition and critical acclaim which garnered him the European Film Award for Best Actor and the German Film Award for Best Actor and later on he went on to make a lot of films in different languages and countries but now German-Spanish star Daniel Bruhl is ready to make his directorial debut, Filmiere.com reports.

Brühl will also appear in front of the camera as the lead actor in this dark comedy that centers on a film star. When his neighbor confronts him with troubling revelations, it risks destroying both his career and his private life.

Bruhl himself came up with the idea and his script is written by Daniel Kehlmann who also wrote Bruhl’s films “Me and Kaminski” back in 2016. Filming started in March but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, restarted in May, finally wrapping in mid-June.

Now world sales are being handled by Warner Bros Entertainment, and the theatrical release is scheduled for 2021. Bruhl is a beloved actor all across Europe, so it’s nice to see he’s ready to sell his directorial debut.

‘Cuties’ Backlash Led Netflix U.S. Cancellations to Spike Nearly Eightfold

(Photograph credit: Netflix)

It’d be great to see a French arthouse movie is getting this much attention but for, unfortunately, this time it’s for all the wrong reasons. “Cuties” got strong reviews at Sundance Film Festival early this year with many critics praised its sensitive treatment of young girls finding themselves in a world that sexualizes them and their traditional values.

Director Maïmouna Doucouré said it’s about her own childhood and the culture clash she went through while growing up. However, after a poster Netflix chose for the movie caused controversy, the internet backlash has gotten bigger and bigger against the film.

Many people claimed the film “sexualizes’ young girls and attacked the movie. Netflix itself has defended “Cuties,” arguing that it is a “social commentary” that makes the case about the dangers of sexualized imagery of young girls. The streamer has urged those who have denounced the film to watch it.

However, it seems not so many people took Netflix or film critics seriously enough and they instead formed an opinion based on internet reactions.

A campaign waged against Netflix over “Cuties” and the film’s sexualized portrayal of children produced a surge in U.S. subscription cancellations over the weekend, according to research company YipitData.

Netflix subscriber churn rates began to rise Sept. 10, the day after the release of “Cuties” on Netflix, when the hashtag “#CancelNetflix” was in the top-trending spot on Twitter, according to data compiled by YipitData.

It’s interesting in a way to observe how films and distributors suffer from wrong marketing or internet backlash. It’ll be interesting to see where the whole conversation will go.

Danish film “The Guilty” gets Hollywood treatment with Jake Gyllenhaal

(Photograph credit: Nordisk Film Distribution)

Danish film “The Guilty” gets Hollywood treatment, as filmiere.com informed you before but this is the week of Jake Gyllenhaal’s news and it’s confirmed that he’s going to star in it with Antoine Fuqua directing.

It’s an unusual choice because Fuqua, who previously worked with Gyllenhaal on “Southpaw”, is better known for more action-driven films. So if this would turn out more like Brad Anderson’s “The Call” rather than the original Danish version, it won’t be so surprising.

Still, it’s better to wait and see before commenting. It takes place over the course of a single morning in a 911 dispatch call center. Call operator Joe Bayler (Gyllenhaal) tries to save a caller in grave danger—but he soon discovers that nothing is as it seems, and facing the truth is the only way out.

Bold Films is financing the drama with Amet Entertainment. Scripted by True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto, the film will be produced by Gyllenhaal and his Nine Stories partner Riva Marker, along with Fuqua through his Fuqua Films, Scott Greenberg, Michel Litvak, Gary Michael Walters, David Litvak, and Svetlana Metkina for Bold Films and Amet’s David Haring. Annie Marter, Gustav Moller, and Lina Flint will be exec producers with Christian Mercuri and Jon Oakes.

Confirmed: Madonna to direct her own biopic

(Photograph credit: MGM)

Filmiere.com reported the rumors around that Madonna is going to direct her own biopic which is very interesting, to say the least. While Madonna’s previous directorial efforts didn’t pay off, it’s very unusual and almost exciting to see an artist to take on her own life.

Universal will handle the project and it has nothing to do with the previously black-listed Madonna biopic as she made it clear on her Instagram that she won’t let anyone else use her music to tell her story without her involvement.

“I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” said Madonna.  “The focus of this film will always be music.  Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive.

There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me.  It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.” She added. Madonna will direct the project and is co-writing the script with Oscar winner Diablo Cody (Juno, Tully).

Three-time Oscar nominee Amy Pascal (Little Women, The Post), will produce for her Universal-based Pascal Pictures alongside Madonna.  Sara Zambreno and Guy Oseary will executive produce.

Denis Villeneuve and Jake Gyllenhaal to collaborate again?

(photograph credit: Eric Charbonneau/REX/Shutterstock/Variety)

He’s one of the most exciting directors around and the other one is one of the most talented actors of their generation. Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve has collaborated with American actor Jake Gyllenhaal on two much respected and loved films in “Prisoners” and “Enemy”, both 2013 releases.

Since then they never collaborated again even though at that time it seemed like they can be a good director-actor collaborator for other projects. Filmiere.com reports that it’s not for lack of trying. They’ve tried to make “The Son” coming to screen a few years ago but there had been no news since then.

But Gyllenhaal confirms on this week’s “Team Deakins” podcast that he’s currently working on a new project with Villeneuve. “That’s very rare…Denis, to this day, there is something we are working on now and he just writes me, ‘I can’t wait to work with you again.’ And I feel the same way.

There are these people you find in your life where you just have these connections. That began that connection.” Gyllenhaal said. Is it “The Son” or anything else? We don’t know yet, but we’ll keep you updated.

Paul Schrader almost finished his new movie.

(Photograph credit: Focus)

It’s been a hell of a challenging year for Paul Schrader who was out there in Mississippi making a film with Oscar Isaac, Tiffany Haddish, Tye Sheridan and his frequent collaborator Willem Dafoe called “The Card Counter” but the filming had to stop due to COVID-19.

However, only five days remained for him to finish. He was angry then but he’s calmed down right now.

Filmiere.com reports based on his interview to Los Angeles Times that Schrader is happy that he actually had a time off, it helped him to rewrite four scenes for the better, he convinced Oscar Isaac to shave off his “Dune” beard for the role and how some of his friends including the executive producer of the film Martin Scorsese has guided him to finish those remained scenes.

The film is almost ready, now only special effects and score left mostly and he says he’s ready to give the film in a month but since the studio doesn’t know what to do with, they gave Schrader enough of time to do whatever he wants.

After rather pulpy films like “The Canyons” and “Dog Eat Dog”, Schrader went back to his arthouse roots with recent “First Reformed” and hopefully “Card Counter” will be on the same league.
